The joy of dance
We believe all can experience the joy of dance and the benefits of disciplining the mind and body that this art form requires. Our primary mission is for the development of our dancer’s technique and to provide a positive atmosphere which builds self-esteem and the love of this cherished art form.
With Family Values at our core, dancers are free to enjoy dance without inappropriate costumes, movement or music. We believe that performances, rather than competitions, provide the best benefit for young dancers. Stage experience is available at our December Showcase and Year-end June Recital, enabling them to develop confidence, poise and stage manners. View our FAQ here.
Ballet
Classical ballet provides the foundation for all other dance forms. With a solid ballet foundation, classically trained dancers can transfer their skills into any other dance discipline they may decide to pursue.
Hip Hop
Hip Hop is one of the most popular styles of dancing. Hip Hop is a genre for more individualized style. It involves much improvisation.
Tap
Tap dancers wear shoes that have metal plates on the bottom. As the dancer moves, the plates click against the dance floor. Tappers can create a variety of percussive rhythms with their feet.
Modern
Modern is a style that is more abstract in both form and content. It has less structured forms of movements and is generally performed with a released or relaxed quality. It has been influenced by many different dance styles and cultures such as, African jazz, jazz music, ballet, and eastern dance styles. Pioneers such as Isadora Duncan, Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, Jose Limon, and Lester Horton all developed their own unique style and techniques that have influenced Modern today.
Dance Company
Wasatch Arts Center Performing Companies are designed for dancers wishing to develop their technique and artistry in dance while experiencing a significant number of performance opportunities. Dance Companies focus on performing, applying technique, and building a community of dancers. Company experiences teach students to excel in dance and prepare them for high school, college, and professional auditions and companies. An audition is required for Dance Company.
The benefits of Music Study
Music provides much more than aesthetic benefits. Many studies have demonstrated a link between active music making and increased academic success. One of the best ways to benefit from music is through private lessons. as they help teach your student the proper theory and technique in their chosen instrument. We believe that finding the right teacher can make all the difference with your student's progress. We offer private instruction in violin, viola, cello, guitar, piano, flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, and tuba. All lessons are 30, 45, or 60 minutes long and are available for students ranging in ability from beginning to late intermediate. Our starting ages vary between instruments.
String Lessons
We offer private instruction in violin, viola or cello for ages 5 to adult. Our strings curriculum combines Suzuki Method and a Traditional program. For younger children we highly encourage a parent to sit in on the lesson to help the student at home with things such as posture and hand positioning.
Woodwind Lessons
We offer private instruction for Flute, Clarinet, and Saxophone from beginning to intermediate levels and all levels of Oboe. Students start at age 10.
